Safety Guidelines for Host Families

Report strange people hanging around the team members you don’t recognize or know. Let your Team Guide know and call Festival Directors.

    1. Don’t give out the phone numbers of the host families or any information about the team members you are housing to people not associated with the Idaho International Dance Festival. Each host family will have a list of the team members and where they are staying.
    2. Explain your house rules to the team members about smoking and drinking. We want them to feel at home, yet not compromise your standards. Be polite but firm.
    3. Suggest that your team members use an International Calling Card instead of your own personal telephone. You can call the phone company and have them put a long-distance clock on your phone during this time. There should be no charge for this service. The Rexburg City Community Education and Culture Incorporated and our committee will not pay for any long-distance phone calls made on your personal phone, even if a dancer made it.
    4. Computers should be available for email and communicating with family. Make sure the computer is password protected to prevent inappropriate viewing in your homes. Skype, Facebook Messenger (also has calling and video chat capabilities), Zoom, and Facetime (turn off your data and connect to wifi) can be free or have great rates for international calls made on the computer or phone. If you don’t have, or want to give access to the internet you may take your guest to the public library for free computer internet use. Another option is to go onto onesuite.com for cheap international calls.
    5. Please don’t make romantic gestures or comments toward team members, or allow those living in your house to flirt or make romantic comments. What might be considered joking banter or teasing here can be considered offensive or taken seriously by others.
    6. Offer to do your team members’ laundry.
    7. Don’t let the dancers drive your vehicles including 3 and 4-wheelers, etc.
    8. Don’t ask your dancers to perform privately as a group. They get tired and will be busy enough with scheduled performances.
    9. Come see your dancers perform! This is a great way to show your interest in their culture and this is a fun activity for the whole family!
